June 7, 2017 — Alex Thill, a resident of Overland Park, Kan., and a senior-to-be at Blue Valley Northwest High School, has been elected governor of the 2017 session of the American Legion Boys State of Kansas Leadership Academy. The announcement was made on Wednesday morning at Kansas State University in Manhattan. Approximately 440 young men from across the State of Kansas, all of whom will enter their senior year of high school this fall, are participating in this year’s session of the ALBSKLA. The event, in its 80th year, started Sunday(June 4) and concludes Friday, June 9. This year marks the 26th consecutive Kansas Boys State session at KSU. Thill and his Nationalist Party (considered to be the more liberal party) lieutenant governor running mate Micah Self, Fort Scott (attends Fort Scott High School), were elected over the Federalist Party (considered to be the more conservative party) team of governor candidate Samuel Reinig, Overland Park (attends Blue Valley North High School) and lieutenant governor candidate Max Harman, McPherson (attends Inman High School). Kansas Boys State Governor Thill will give his inaugural address tonight at 7:30 p.m. in McCain Auditorium at KSU. The evening’s festivities will also include the annual Kansas Boys State talent show and a presentation by motivational speaker Clint Usher. - Commissioner Of Insurance — Nolen Wright, Overland Park, Kansas City Christian High School (Nationalist), defeated Trey Peat III, Topeka, Washburn Rural High School (Federalist)
