Boys State choir and chorus perform

By Jacob Doerksen and Jordan Waymaster Staters Union Every year, The Boys State program offer Staters the opportunity to work with Kansas State University music directors. Thursday evening the combined groups of Chorus and Band performed the pieces that they had worked on during the week. The choir was the first on stage and performed three songs. IMG_3297The first song was “Swingin’ with the Saints”, which was a mashup of “Swing Low Sweet Chariot” and “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In” by Mark Hays. Next the choir piece was a piece arranged by a local composer called “Tell My Father” which featured a soloist, Jonah. The choir closed with the Boys State Anthem. The choir was directed by professor of music at KSU, Julie Yu. The band played multiple pieces under the direction of two students of music from Kansas State University. The songs were played as follows; “YMCA”, “Sweet Caroline”, “Pharaoh Pharaoh” and closed with “Land of a Thousand Dances”. Throughout the week the students were given about an hour each day to practice with their professors. Although some felt like the time given was less than ideal but the show must go on! Overall, both the students on and off stage were incredibly pleased with their respective performance.]]>
